EastEnders fans’ wishes are about to come true as a group of pubs in East London – proudly coined the ‘last real pubs’ – will screen a 100-hour video artwork dedicated entirely to the soap. The concept was created by artist Stanley Schtinter, who spent lockdown it.
Stanley used video editing software to remove every scene in the first decade of EastEnders that wasn’t set in the iconic Queen Vic pub. The result is a 100-hour video called The Lock-in and it will be screened in 11 ‘real’ East End pubs.
The project launches on the day of the Queen’ s Platinum Jubilee, Friday June 3. The first screening will take place at The Queen Adelaide in Bethnal Green.

Each venue selected will screen a different decade of the soap from 1985 to 1995 and each screening will last approximately ten hours. After its run in pubs, The Lock-in will move to the Barbican for the entirety of July. Anita Dobson, who played the Queen Vic’s first ever landlady Angie Watts, called The Lock-in an “interesting project”.
Following the first screening in Bethnal Green, The Lock-in will take a four-day break before its next run in The Anchor And Hope in Clapton on June 7. On June 9, The Lock-in will reside at The Hare in Cambridge Heath. The last screening before the show’s extended Barbican run will take place at The Gun in Homerton on July 1. Attendance to any of the pub screenings is free for drinkers.
